Sasha Watts

(she/her)

Sasha Watts (she/her) is a certified nurse-midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner who offers full-scope midwifery care to the greater Chico community. She was raised in Paradise, California and feels strong roots to this community and the shared experience we have. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) at Chico State and provided care as an RN in labor and delivery for 8 years before returning to school to earn her master’s degree. She attended UC San Francisco where she earned a Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) and was able to obtain licensure in both certified nurse-midwife (CNM) and women’s health nurse-practitioner (WHNP). She practiced at a local hospital after licensure until she branched out and decided to provide more personalized and holistic care by starting Chico Community Midwives. Sasha has developed deep and meaningful relationships with many families in this community. She provides confidence, experience, humor and attentiveness to all interactions and has developed a reputation for being safe and affirming in her care. 

Chico Community Midwives is a full-scope midwifery practice that provides care with a trauma-informed, affirming focus. We offer prenatal care, birth services, postpartum, fertility including at home intrauterine insemination (IUI), gynecology services and well-person care. Initially our practice consisted of Sasha as primary midwife and Cat Nelson as birth assistant. We plan to expand by bringing more holistic and affirming birth workers to our practice. All prenatal care, gynecology, and well person care visits will be done in our office in Chico. We attend births in the comfort of your home.

Cat Nelson

CAT NELSON

(she/her)

Cat Nelson is a Chico local whose family has been in the area for 4 generations. Cat’s journey with birth began with her own birth, born at home in the 80’s in the family beach house under a full moon and lunar eclipse. Growing up in Chico, Cat has nurtured many strong connections within the community and values the support in such strong roots. When it was time to have her own babies, Cat chose home birth with midwives here in Chico and had transformative and educational experiences with each birth. Between her second and third kids, she began attending births as a support person and doula. 

Cat now has over 8 years of doula experience and trained at Sierra Childbirth Institute, becoming DONA certified. She has also trained with Original Instructions School, earning a certification in birth and postpartum care with an emphasis on herbalism and traditional wisdom. Cat has an extensive knowledge of plants, herbal medicine, and homeopathy.

In 2020 the path for midwifery opened up after her grandmother’s passing, and she registered with the National College of Midwifery. Cat is now a 3rd year student finishing up her primary phase of clinical studies and her academic studies. Cat currently offers postpartum, placenta, and birth assistant services, as well as herbalism consulting.

When Cat isn’t doing birth work she enjoys spending time with her family, homeschooling, dancing, seeing live music, practicing yoga, traveling, learning ASL, falconry, sauntering through the outdoors and taking pictures, making all kinds of art, and fostering deep and meaningful
connections.
